The National Theatre and Birmingham Repertory Theatre have announced casting for their 25th anniversary co-production of East is East.
Ayub Khan Din’s much-loved comedy drama, adapted into a BAFTA Award-winning film, reopens the National's Lyttelton theatre as part of a 25th anniversary tour, directed by Iqbal Khan.
The cast includes Tony Jayawardena as George, Sophie Stanton as Ella, Amy-Leigh Hickman as Meenah, Irvine Iqbal as Mr Shah/Dr, Adonis Jenieco as Saleem, Rachel Lumberg as Annie, Noah Manzoor as Sajit, Joeravar Sangha as Maneer, Gurjeet Singh as Tariq and Assad Zaman as Abdul.
On the creative team, director Iqbal Khan is joined by Bretta Gerecke (Set, Projection and Lighting Design), Susan Kulkarni (Costume Design), Felix Dubs (Composer), Jon Nicholls (Sound Design), Stuart Burt CDG (Casting), Natasha Kathi-Chandra (Associate Director), Max White (Video Associate) and RC-Annie (Fight Director).
East Is East will run at Birmingham Repertory Theatre from 3 to 25 September before transferring to the National Theatre from 7 to 30 October.
Tickets for the National Theatre run go on to the public on Friday 30 July.
